WhatsApp & SMS marketing
A channel opened within minutes and run without getting your number restricted: evidenced opt-in, approved WhatsApp templates, a healthy quality rating, and STOP handled automatically.
The short version
WhatsApp and SMS get read within minutes, which is exactly why they punish carelessness. One send to a list that never explicitly opted in can produce ICO complaints and a quality rating downgrade that caps how many messages you are permitted to send at all. Every message also costs real money, so a blast to everybody is expensive as well as irritating. We set the channel up so the useful messages arrive and the rest never get sent.
What is included
- WhatsApp Business Platform set up end to end: business verification, display name approval, Cloud API connected to your systems, and message templates submitted in the correct category.
- Opt-in mechanics that would survive a complaint — wording that names the channel, a stored record of when and where consent was given, and a preference centre so someone can leave one channel without leaving the other.
- SMS configured properly, with an alphanumeric sender ID where permitted, GSM-7 encoding checked so a message stays inside one 160-character segment, links shortened on your own domain, and STOP and HELP keywords handled automatically.
- Triggered messages that justify their per-message cost: order and delivery updates, appointment reminders, an abandoned checkout nudge, and a restock or renewal prompt under a hard frequency cap.
- Reply handling agreed in writing, covering who answers inside WhatsApp's 24-hour customer service window, how a conversation escalates to a person, and the quiet hours we will not send in.
- Reporting on delivery, read, click and reply rates, cost per message against revenue per message, and opt-out rate per campaign so the brake is always visible.
How we work
Our approach
The stages this work runs through, in order. Every one of them ends in something you can see or sign off.
-
Step 01
Prove the consent first
This channel lives or dies on opt-in. Under PECR, marketing messages need consent from the person, and the wording has to name the channel rather than bury it inside general terms. We audit what you hold, keep what is evidenced, and set up collection points that store the timestamp and the source. If a list cannot be evidenced, we will not send to it. That is not caution for its own sake, because a single wave of complaints can end the channel entirely.
-
Step 02
Set up and verify the sender
WhatsApp senders go through business verification and display name review, both of which sit with Meta on their timetable rather than ours. Templates are then written and submitted per category, since marketing, utility and authentication messages are priced and treated differently. A new number starts on a low messaging tier and steps up as quality holds, so the plan assumes a ramp rather than a launch. SMS sender ID registration runs alongside all of that.
-
Step 03
Start with useful messages
The first messages we send are the ones people want: order confirmations, delivery updates, appointment reminders, anything that answers a question before it gets asked. They get read, they attract almost no opt-outs, and they build the quality rating that makes marketing sends possible later on. Once the sender is healthy we introduce promotional messages carefully, with a frequency cap and a segment small enough that a mistake stays survivable.
-
Step 04
Cap frequency, watch opt-outs
Opt-out rate is the number that governs everything here. We set a cap on messages per contact per month, hold quiet hours, and treat any campaign that spikes opt-outs as a failure regardless of the revenue it produced, because a permissioned list cannot be rebuilt quickly. Cost per message is small individually and significant in aggregate, so every recurring send has to show revenue per message comfortably above what delivery costs.
Before you ask
Questions we get asked first
How long does setup take?
Plan on 2 to 3 weeks, with one caveat: business verification and display name approval sit with Meta, and their timing is not ours to promise. Individual message templates are usually reviewed within a day, though rejections happen and a rewrite costs another round. UK SMS sender ID registration adds time on top. Messaging tiers also start low, so full-volume sending arrives some weeks after the account technically works. We build the schedule around both constraints.
How is it priced?
Setup is one agreed sum in pounds, covering platform configuration, templates, opt-in mechanics, triggered messages and reporting. Per-message charges are billed to you directly by Meta or your SMS gateway, and they vary by country and by message category, so we show you the cost model against a realistic monthly volume before you commit to anything. Ongoing management, if you want it, runs as a monthly charge for a campaign volume fixed in advance.
What do you need from us?
A business phone number that is not already registered to the WhatsApp Business app, and admin access to Meta Business Manager. Company documents for verification that match your public register details. Your existing consent records, however messy they are. A decision on who answers replies, because an unanswered WhatsApp is worse than no WhatsApp. And the operational data we will actually send, such as order statuses or booking times, plus where it lives.
Is the channel paying for itself?
Delivery and read rates confirm the mechanics are sound, and they should be high enough that anything low is a signal something is broken. The number that matters is revenue per message net of what the message cost to send, reported per campaign and per triggered message. Against that we track opt-out rate as the guard rail, and we will recommend sending less when it climbs. A smaller list with a low opt-out rate is worth more than a large one being burnt through.
