Website design & build

A website that earns its place: designed for the decision your visitor is making, built to load in under a second, and structured so search engines and AI assistants can quote it.

The short version

Most sites fail in one of two ways. They look right and load slowly, or they load quickly and say nothing worth reading. We treat both as the same problem, because a visitor experiences them as one thing. Strategy sets the structure, design does the persuading, and the engineering makes sure neither is wasted on a page that takes four seconds to appear.

What is included

  • Discovery and a sitemap built around the questions your buyers ask in the order they ask them, rather than around your internal departments.
  • Custom design for every template, proofed at 360px before desktop, because that is where most of your traffic will read it.
  • A hand-built front end with a performance budget agreed in writing: sub-one-second largest contentful paint on a mid-range Android over 4G.
  • Technical SEO and GEO foundations — semantic markup, structured data, clean internal linking and a machine-readable summary for AI crawlers.
  • A content model your team can edit without breaking layout, plus a walkthrough recorded so the knowledge doesn't leave with one person.
  • Pre-launch QA across real devices, redirect mapping from your old URLs, analytics wired up, and a written handover you own outright.

How we work

Our approach

The stages this work runs through, in order. Every one of them ends in something you can see or sign off.

  1. Step 01

    Agree the target first

Before any design, we write down what the site has to do: who it is for, the one action that matters most on each page, and the numbers we will judge it by. That includes the performance budget, in writing, with a figure. It means design decisions get settled against a goal instead of against opinion, and it means you can hold us to something specific when we hand it over.

  2. Step 02

Design the decision, not the page

Every screen exists to move someone one step closer to acting. We design in the browser as much as in Figma, so what you approve is what you get rather than a flattering picture of it. Layouts start narrow and grow, because a design that only works at 1440px is a design that fails for most of your visitors.

  3. Step 03

    Build to the budget

We hand-write the front end rather than assembling a page builder, because the budget is unreachable otherwise. Fonts are self-hosted and subset, CSS is inlined, images are sized and modern-format, and third-party scripts have to justify their weight before they go in. If a feature would break the budget, we tell you what it costs in milliseconds and let you decide.

  4. Step 04

    Hand over, then stay reachable

You get the code, the accounts, the documentation and no lock-in of any kind. We run the redirect map so your existing search rankings survive the move, check the live site rather than assuming, and stay available for the fortnight after launch when the real questions surface. Ongoing care is a separate arrangement you opt into, never an automatic invoice.

Before you ask

Questions we get asked first

How long will it take?

A focused site of five to eight pages runs 5 to 7 weeks from kickoff. Larger sites, custom functionality or a migration with hundreds of existing URLs run longer, and we will say so before you commit rather than after. You get a dated schedule with the design sign-off and QA milestones marked, so a slip is visible immediately instead of at the end. The thing that most often delays a build is content, so we agree who is writing what on day one.

How is it priced?

By scope, not by the hour. After a discovery call we send a fixed price in pounds against a defined list of pages, features and revision rounds, so the number on the proposal is the number you pay. If you change the scope mid-project we price the change and get your approval before doing the work. There is no hourly meter running in the background and no line items you have not seen.

What do you need from us?

Your logo and any brand assets, access to your domain and current hosting, and one person who can make decisions and sign off. For content you can supply it or we can write it — decide early, because that choice moves the timeline more than anything else. If you have analytics on the current site, access to that too: it tells us which pages already earn their keep and should survive the redesign.

How will we know whether it worked?

Against the targets we wrote down at the start. On the technical side that is measurable the day we launch: load time on a real device, Core Web Vitals passing, every page indexable. On the business side it is whichever conversion you named — enquiries, sign-ups, orders — tracked from launch so you have a baseline rather than a guess. We would rather agree an awkward number up front than a comfortable one you cannot check.
